The people is coming from the other islands from which imported the most popular festivals of expression.
Most features are:
 

•     CARNIVAL

           Celebrated in all the cities of the island, especially in Espargos, with a parade of beautiful floats and groups of dancers.
 

•     March 19 - Feast of St. Joseph, in Palmeira

 

•     May 3 - Santa Cruz

 

•     June / July - Popular Saints: St. Anthony, St. John Pedra Lume

 

•     August 15 - Our Lady of Mercy in Pedra Lume

 

•     September 15 - BEACH FESTIVAL SANTA MARIA

 On September 15, the islanders celebrate its patron saint, Our Lady of Sorrows and the weekend next to this date on       Praia Santa Maria is held the Festival of Music of Santa Maria. We speak of two days and two nights of music on the beach.  Over the years this has become an international event, with the presence of foreign artists and Cape Verdean residents also in the diaspora.

•    WINDSURF - INTERNATIONAL CHAMPIONSHIPS

They are held annually in the waters of Ponta Preta Beach. The period is variable, from November to March, depending on the wind strength, which is critical to the practice of this sport. During the week dedicated to the championships they can be found here athletes, journalists and tourists from all over the world.
